Kangana Ranaut's account permanently suspended by Twitter India after 'repeated violations'

Twitter India permanently suspended the account of actress Kangana Ranaut, on Tuesday. The microblogging site issued a statement on the same.

A spokesperson for Twitter said Ranaut's account was permanently suspended because of "repeated violations of Twitter Rules, specifically Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy." "We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm," the spokesperson adds.

This is not the first time that the actress' account has been suspended. Last month, Ranaut's account was suspended temporarily. In December last year, a petition filed in Bombay High Court demanded the actor's account be deactivated for "spreading continuous hatred, disharmony in the country, and attempting to divide the country with her extremist tweets."

Last year in September, Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel's account was also suspended after a controversial tweet regarding the stone-pelting incident in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad.

According to the policy of the micro-blogging site, tweets that propagate or incite violence, hatred, terrorism, abuse or harassment are subjected to be reported following which the Twitter account of the user gets suspended.

Ranaut had recently announced she willl make her digital debut as a producer. After making her directorial debut in 2019 with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, the actress is set to produce Tiku Weds Sheru, a quirky love story.

Talking about the new project, Kangana said, “With Tiku Weds Sheru, Manikarnika Films is venturing into digital space. It’s a love story and a satire with dark humour. In the digital space, we will do more edgy, new-age and niche content. We feel the digital audience is slightly more evolved than the regular cinema-going audience”.

She will soon be seen in the trilingual political drama Thalaivi, a biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The film was scheduled to release in April but was pushed because of the raging coronavirus pandemic.
